The City also works to guide the growth of the city through economic development, planning, zoning and road construction. Greensboro is governed by a Council-Manager form of government.
Downtown Greensboro, Inc. - Our core purpose is to lead the development of downtown Greensboro as a prosperous and vibrant urban center, memorable and meaningful for those who choose to live, work, play and invest here .We are a nonprofit organization specifically dedicated to the revitalization of Greensboro’s center city. We believe a vibrant downtown is essential to Greensboro’s quality of life, community image, and economic prosperity. We work every day as an advocate for downtown’s businesses and property owners, to attract new investments and to promote downtown as the center for culture and entertainment. We rely upon investments from individuals and businesses for our operations. The 28 member board of directors is comprised of downtown business owners, downtown property owners, downtown non-profit directors and representatives from city and county government. Downtown Greensboro is the source for downtown happenings. United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro - The United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro (UAC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “champion the arts for everyone in the community.” The UAC raises approximately $1.5 million annually to support the arts in the Greensboro community through the United Arts Fund. These funds are reinvested through over 50 grants and programs to schools, artists, and arts organizations. The UAC also provides vital services to the community with an emphasis on arts in education, arts in economic development, and arts in health and well-being.
